The legacy of Omega watches, intertwined with the narratives of iconic figures like Elvis Presley, John F. Kennedy, and James Bond, is set to take center stage at the upcoming “Planet Omega” exhibition in New York. From November 9 to 19, the Chelsea Factory performing arts space will transform into a haven for watch enthusiasts and history aficionados alike, showcasing the brand’s illustrious 175-year journey through time.
In a carefully curated showcase, the exhibition will delve into five distinct themes, each reflecting a pivotal aspect of Omega’s rich heritage. Among the highlights, visitors can marvel at the first Ladymatic from 1955, adorned with 44 brilliant-cut diamonds and once graced by the wrist of the legendary Elvis Presley. The timeless Omega timepiece worn by John F. Kennedy during his presidential inauguration ceremony in 1961 will also make a prominent appearance, underscoring the brand’s enduring presence in moments of historical significance.
Additionally, the exhibition will celebrate Omega’s role as the official timekeeper of various sports events, including the Olympics and America’s Cup sailing, showcasing a spectrum of timepieces that have stood the test of time. The event will also explore Omega’s profound contributions to the realm of ocean exploration, highlighting the evolution of its dive watches, including the Seamaster “Ultra Deep,” designed to withstand pressures at unfathomable depths.
In a nod to its collaboration with the James Bond franchise, the exhibition will feature the Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition, as well as specially crafted timepieces commemorating the 60th anniversary of the renowned series, complete with animations replicating the iconic James Bond opening sequence.
Furthermore, the exhibition will pay tribute to Omega’s significant role in space exploration, showcasing the Speedmaster CK2998 model worn by astronaut Wally Schirra during the Mercury’s Sigma 7 mission in 1962, marking the brand’s enthralling journey beyond Earth.
The “Planet Omega” exhibition offers a rare opportunity for enthusiasts to witness some of the most prized Omega timepieces, echoing tales of history and innovation outside the confines of the Omega Museum in Switzerland.
