British Watchmaker’s Latest Release Draws Inspiration from London Streets
Farer, the British independent watch brand known for its bold and vibrant designs, has introduced its newest creation for 2023 – the Farer Chrono-Contempo collection. Comprising two distinct models, this chronograph duo takes its inspiration from the lively streets of London, each watch telling a unique visual story through color and style.
Both models in the Farer Chrono-Contempo collection share the same stainless steel case, characterized by distinctive concave “ski-slope” lugs with polished chamfers and a subtle upward curve. With a diameter of 38.5mm and a thickness of 11.5mm (13.4mm with the domed sapphire crystal), these watches strike a harmonious balance between classic dimensions and contemporary style. The lug-to-lug profile measures 43.7mm, ensuring a comfortable fit, and the watches are water-resistant up to 100 meters.
The signature feature of these watches is the bidirectional rotating bezel, equipped with a ceramic insert. This bezel serves a dual purpose, with a 12-hour scale featuring Super-LumiNova BGW9 for quick access to a secondary time zone. On the caseback, a display-style caseback proudly showcases the manually-wound chronograph movement, adorned with perlage, blued screws, and a custom-engraved upper bridge.
Both Chrono-Contempo models feature a signed winding crown with the Farer “A” logo embossed on its bronze cap. On the right side of the case, flanking the crown, are the chronograph pushers, adding functionality and style to the watch’s design.
The first model, the “Chalcot,” draws inspiration from London’s Chalcot Square, known for its pastel-colored facades. Its mint green dial, adorned with a grain-textured finish, features a trio of recessed registers, with a prominent minute totalizer at 3 o’clock. Super-LumiNova BGW9 fills the applied hour markers, while the hands are painted white with mint green lume accents. The dark blue ceramic bezel and bright orange chronograph seconds hand add vibrant splashes of color.
In contrast, the “Portobello” model takes its cues from the colorful buildings along London’s Portobello Road. Its dark blue dial features a textured “chocolate bar” pattern, with black chronograph registers and a contrasting white ring around the dial’s edge, hosting minute track markings. The hour markers have a distinct tapered shape with polished facets, and the hands combine polished and dark blue elements, all filled with Super-LumiNova BGW9. The watch’s ceramic bezel insert is a striking shade of orange.
Both Chrono-Contempo models are powered by the reliable Elaboré grade Sellita Caliber SW510M b manual-wind chronograph movement. With a frequency of 28,800vph (4 Hz) and a power reserve of approximately 63 hours, this movement provides robust and accurate timekeeping.
Farer offers a variety of strap options for these watches, including St. Venere leather straps in different colors and a textured blue rubber strap. The integrated quick-release spring bars make strap changes a breeze.
The Farer Chrono-Contempo collection presents an enticing option for those seeking a mechanical chronograph with a unique and colorful design. Priced at $1,850 USD for each model, these watches offer an attractive proposition in the world of chronographs, combining Swiss craftsmanship with Farer’s distinctive design language.
