Swatch (SWGAY) and its esteemed partner, Blancpain, are embarking on an exciting venture, introducing a captivating twist to the iconic diving watch this upcoming weekend.
Branded as the “Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms Collection,” this vibrant ensemble of watches encompasses five striking hues, each representing a distinct ocean. It serves as a poignant testament to Blancpain’s unwavering commitment to the cause of ocean exploration and preservation.
These remarkable timepieces draw inspiration from Blancpain’s legendary Fifty Fathoms model, now celebrating its 70th year as the pioneer of genuine diver’s watches.
The modern rendition of the Fifty Fathoms features Swatch’s cutting-edge bioceramic craftsmanship and operates on the brand’s renowned Sistem51 automatic movement. Staying true to its moniker, this watch boasts an impressive water resistance of 91 meters, equivalent to 300 feet, or precisely 50 fathoms.
Blancpain’s President and CEO, Marc A. Hayek, conveyed the profound significance of this collaboration between two titans of Swiss watchmaking, underscoring their instrumental roles in shaping the Swiss watch industry.
“Without Swatch, the Swiss watch industry would simply not have thrived as it has,” declared Hayek. “This collection fills me with immense pride.”
This groundbreaking partnership follows the triumphant 2022 launch of the MoonSwatch, a wallet-friendly homage to the Omega Speedmaster Professional, created in collaboration with Swatch’s partner, Omega.
In a candid statement to British GQ, Swatch CEO Nick Hayek, Jr. revealed that numerous luxury brands sought him out after witnessing the success of the Omega collaboration. They recognized the untapped potential within a demographic eager to purchase but financially out of reach.
“Their rationale was compelling: Many young customers aspire to own luxury timepieces, but they cannot fathom spending $30,000 or $50,000,” said Hayek Jr. to British GQ. “By partnering with Swatch, as we have with Omega, they can broaden their reach, sharing their legacy and future with a wider audience.”
Swatch enthusiasts and watch connoisseurs alike can mark their calendars for the exclusive release of the Scuba Fifty Fathoms Collection, available on September 9 at handpicked Swatch boutiques worldwide. These distinctive timepieces, each with its unique flair, come with a price tag of $400, making them a far cry from the hefty $16,000 associated with their Blancpain counterparts.
Furthermore, a select number of Blancpain boutiques will showcase this remarkable watch collection, although they will not be available for purchase.
