Apple’s upcoming smartwatch models, including the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Apple Watch Series 11, are expected to feature high blood pressure detection, according to new reports.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed this week that Apple plans to upgrade its three top smartwatch lines—Series, Ultra, and SE—in September 2025. While the Apple Watch SE 3 may see a redesign, Gurman notes that the more premium models, the Ultra and Series lines, will likely receive significant health-focused upgrades.
One of the standout features is the long-rumored high blood pressure detection. Gurman suggests that this feature, along with enhanced satellite connectivity and 5G support, will be included in both the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Series 11. This marks the clearest indication yet that 2025 could be the year for Apple’s high blood pressure monitoring.
Though the feature is not new in rumors, Gurman provided further details last year, explaining that it would work similarly to the watch’s sleep apnea detection. However, the watches will not provide specific blood pressure readings—such as diastolic or systolic levels—due to the limitations of LED-based sensors. Most smartwatches face similar challenges in delivering accurate blood pressure measurements, with the Huawei Watch D2 being one of the few exceptions, as it uses a physical cuff for readings.
Instead, Apple Watches will likely notify users if they are experiencing hypertension, but without offering precise measurements.
Additionally, Apple is continuing to work on non-invasive blood glucose tracking, a long-term goal for the company, which would represent a significant leap in smartwatch health technology.
