Rolex Unveils New Land-Dweller Watch at Geneva Watches & Wonders

by Barbara Wilson

As spring arrives, marking the start of the Geneva Watches & Wonders exhibition, Rolex has introduced several exciting updates. While many of their new releases feature fresh dial colors and designs, none stand out quite as much as the new Rolex Land-Dweller—a timepiece that promises to redefine the brand’s watchmaking excellence.

Before diving into the Land-Dweller, let’s take a look at some of Rolex’s other notable releases. The brand has unveiled an 8 ct white gold version of the Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II, which is celebrated as the brand’s first ceramic dial. Both the dial and bezel insert are made from the same ceramic material. The Oyster Perpetual models (28, 36, and 41) also showcase new pastel dials. Meanwhile, the Daytona, GMT-Master II, and Sky-Dweller collections have been refreshed, and the 18 ct yellow gold Perpetual 1908 is now available for the first time on a bracelet of the same material.

Now, let’s turn our attention to the Land-Dweller. While it might be easy to label it as “another Rolex,” that wouldn’t fully capture the essence of this groundbreaking model. The Land-Dweller is the result of a century of watchmaking technology, backed by 18 new patents. At its core lies the new 7135 calibre automatic movement, which operates at 5 Hz and is precise to the nearest tenth of a second. This level of accuracy is a major leap forward for Rolex, and the movement is engineered with an optimized brass balance wheel and a high-tech ceramic balance staff, which are laser-engraved for added precision. Additionally, the movement’s oscillator is anti-magnetic, ensuring the Land-Dweller continues to function flawlessly under all conditions.

One of the most innovative features of the Land-Dweller is its Dynapulse escapement, which departs from the traditional Swiss lever escapement. In this new system, power is transmitted through a “rolling motion,” making the movement more energy-efficient and less prone to wear. The movement can be viewed through a transparent caseback, offering a glimpse of this technical marvel.

Another striking feature of the Land-Dweller is its redesigned integrated bracelet. This bracelet introduces flat links for the first time since the debut of Rolex’s quartz watch in 1969, giving it a sleek, modern look reminiscent of the Flat Jubilee.

The dial of the Land-Dweller is equally impressive. Featuring a honeycomb pattern—at first glance, it might even resemble a seashell—the dial’s subtle hexagonal geometric design is embossed for texture. The openwork numerals and luminous hour markers ensure optimal readability, even in low light. The hands are also luminous and specially crafted for this model.

The Land-Dweller is available in multiple configurations: a 40mm Rolesor version (combining white gold and Oystersteel) or platinum, and a 36mm version in 18 ct Everose gold.

With the Land-Dweller, Rolex continues to push the boundaries of watchmaking, blending technical innovation with classic design. This new model is not just another addition to the Rolex lineup but a bold step forward in precision and craftsmanship.
