A Malaysian father is turning to an extraordinary measure to fund his baby daughter’s leukemia treatment in Singapore by selling his prized Rolex watch online. Abu Ali, in a heartfelt post shared on his X account, announced that he is selling his 2023 Rolex for RM45,000 to RM50,000 to help cover the mounting medical expenses for his daughter’s care.
In his post, Abu Ali wrote, “Salam, everyone. Please share this around. I would like to sell my (2023) watch to supplement my financial needs to support my wife and baby, who is receiving treatment for leukemia in Singapore. RM45,000 to RM50,000. If anyone wants to buy it while contributing (to this cause), (please contact) 016-6000134.”
The cost of specialized medical treatments for leukemia in Malaysia, including CAR-T cell therapy, has led the family to seek care in Singapore, where the treatment is available. In a follow-up comment, Abu Ali shared more details about his daughter’s condition, stating that CAR-T cell therapy, recommended by doctors, is not accessible in Malaysia, making their decision to pursue treatment at the National University Hospital (NUH) in Singapore their only viable option.
He added, “CAR-T is not available at PPUM (Universiti Malaya Medical Centre). My child just survived pneumonia during Blinatumomab and is currently being treated at NUH. At the moment, chemotherapy or a transplant is too high risk and is not able to be done yet.”
Blinatumomab, an immunotherapy treatment, is used for cases of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and is a critical part of the treatment plan for the young girl.
Abu Ali’s heartfelt plea highlights the lengths to which parents are willing to go to secure life-saving care for their children. The community hopes that his efforts to raise the necessary funds will succeed, providing his daughter with the opportunity to continue her battle against leukemia.
