Patek Philippe Enhances Its Travel Timepieces with Innovative Features

by Barbara Wilson

Patek Philippe, renowned for its ability to adapt to the evolving needs of global travelers since the 19th century, has continued to innovate with its world-time and GMT watches. In response to the anticipated surge in post-Covid travel, the Swiss luxury watchmaker has expanded its travel watch collection with several new models.

5520RG Alarm Travel Time

The latest addition to Patek Philippe’s Pilot collection is the 5520RG Alarm Travel Time, a dual-time zone watch crafted in rose gold. This model features two central hour hands—one for the wearer’s home time and another for local time—both of which are adjusted using two white gold pushers.

The standout feature of the 5520RG Alarm Travel Time is its patented 24-hour alarm, which utilizes a hammer to strike a classic gong. It is notably the only Patek Philippe watch with a chime that boasts a water-resistant case. The alarm is managed via an additional set of white gold pushers and is complemented by a digital display showing 15-minute increments within a charcoal-grey frame adorned with rose gilt.

The watch is driven by a proprietary self-winding movement and is presented on a chestnut calfskin leather strap with a vintage finish and cream stitching, fastened with a rose gold clevis prong buckle.

5330G-001 World Time

The Ref 5330G-001 World Time introduces a groundbreaking feature: a date display that aligns with the local time zone, marked at the 12 o’clock position and adjusted by the central hands. Unlike other world-time watches, which require separate adjustments for time zone and date, this model integrates these functions seamlessly.

First showcased last year as a limited edition during the Patek Philippe Watch Art Grand Exhibition in Tokyo, the Ref 5330G-001 is now part of the brand’s regular lineup. It features an opaline blue-grey dial with a carbon motif, set in a 40 mm white gold case. The dial includes a 24-hour disc divided into day and night zones, marked by a gilt sun and crescent moon. A red dot on the city disc signifies the International Date Line, and luminescent hands and hour markers denote local time.

The watch is paired with a calfskin strap and is powered by a newly developed ultra-thin automatic mechanical movement with a power reserve ranging from 38 to 48 hours.

5269R-001 Aquanaut Travel Time

For those who prefer a more understated design, the 5269R-001 Aquanaut Travel Time offers a refined alternative. This model, housed in a rose gold case, eschews decorative gems for a more minimalist aesthetic.

The 5269R-001 retains its distinctive appeal with an opaline blue-grey dial featuring an embossed Aquanaut motif, paired with a durable blue-grey composite strap bearing the Aquanaut pattern. The 38.8 mm case combines polished and satin finishes.

The watch displays home time via a skeletonized central hour hand and local time with a solid hand. The local time hand can be adjusted forward or backward in one-hour increments by pulling the crown to the intermediate position. Additionally, the skeletonized hand continues to show home time, with a day/night indicator at 6 o’clock. This patented Travel Time system also facilitates time tracking in another time zone where a loved one might reside.
