We’ve all experienced the panic of reaching for our phone only to find it missing. While the initial search can be nerve-wracking, tech expert Kurt Knutsson, also known as Kurt the Cyberguy, has outlined four dependable methods for locating a lost iPhone. Knutsson, the founder of The Cyberguy Report, specializes in cybersecurity advice and device safety.
Here are four effective strategies to track down your missing iPhone:
1. Use Your Apple Watch
If you have an Apple Watch and your iPhone is within approximately 330 feet, you can use it to locate your phone. On your Apple Watch, press the side button to access the Control Center and tap the ‘Find iPhone’ icon. This action will prompt your iPhone to emit a pinging sound, making it easier to locate. Depending on your watch’s configuration, you might also access the ‘Find iPhone’ feature by swiping up or left on the watch face, revealing a menu with the option to ping your phone.
2. Leverage iCloud
iCloud offers a ‘Find My iPhone’ feature that can assist in locating your device, provided you had previously enabled location services and added your iPhone to the ‘Find My’ app. To use this method, log in to your iCloud account on a computer or tablet with your Apple ID credentials. Once logged in, navigate to the ‘Find My’ icon on the lower left of the screen. Here, you can select your iPhone from the list of devices. iCloud will display a map showing your iPhone’s approximate location and allow you to select ‘Play Sound’ if your phone is within audible range.
3. Activate Siri
Siri can also aid in finding your iPhone if the feature is activated. If you suspect your iPhone is nearby, simply call out ‘Hey Siri.’ This will cause Siri to respond audibly, making it easier to locate your phone by sound.
4. Check Google Maps Timeline
A less conventional method involves Google Maps Timeline, which tracks your iPhone’s location history if location services are enabled. To use this feature, access Google Maps Timeline via a web browser and log in with the Google account associated with your phone. This will provide you with a record of your iPhone’s location history, which can help pinpoint its current whereabouts.
By employing these techniques, you can alleviate the stress of a lost iPhone and efficiently track down your device.
