As the Paralympic Games Paris 2024 kick off, OMEGA has officially taken on the role of Timekeeper for this prestigious event. The summer of sport in Paris has once again ignited excitement, marked by the Opening Ceremony held on the iconic Champs-Élysées. OMEGA’s countdown clock, prominently positioned near the Eiffel Tower, has reached zero, signaling the commencement of both the Games and the brand’s timekeeping duties.
Running through September 8th, the Paralympic Games will feature approximately 4,400 athletes competing across 22 sports, captivating a global audience with their extraordinary performances.
OMEGA’s association with the Paralympic Games began in Albertville in 1992. This longstanding partnership with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) builds on OMEGA’s extensive history of serving as the Official Timekeeper for the Olympic Games, a role it has fulfilled 31 times since 1932.
This year’s Games will see OMEGA timing 549 individual events, each with unique requirements and challenges. Leveraging decades of experience and technological innovation, OMEGA is committed to providing precise results during crucial moments.
In addition to employing many of the same technologies used in the Olympic Games—such as electronic starting pistols and photofinish cameras—OMEGA will introduce specialized equipment for the Paralympic Games. This includes flashing start lights for deaf athletes and a fifth beam in its Photocell technology to accurately measure athletes in wheelchair races.
With the Paralympic flame now lit and the Parisian crowds filling the venues, OMEGA stands poised to capture every thrilling finish and medal-winning moment of these inspiring Games.
