In the wake of Swatch Group AG’s release of its budget-friendly Omega-branded watch, a new issue has emerged. Customers who purchased the “Mission to Neptune” model from the MoonSwatch series have reported that the watch leaves blue dye marks on their wrists.
The problem has been highlighted in numerous complaints on social media platforms such as YouTube and Reddit. In response, Swatch has assured customers that the dye bleeding off the watch is “harmless” and described the occurrence as a “very, very rare experience.”
A Swatch spokesperson explained that the discolouration is due to the high concentration of pigments used to achieve the watch’s vibrant color. The company stated that the pigment is non-toxic and poses no harm to the skin. “The color will not change, and the effect will dissipate over time,” the spokesperson assured. Swatch has already informed its quality management teams, who have implemented measures to address the issue.
The “Mission to Neptune” watch, priced at approximately $260, is a more affordable alternative to the prestigious Speedmaster Professional, famously known as the ‘Moon Watch’ due to its association with U.S. astronauts. The release of this collaboration between Swatch’s more budget-friendly line and the luxury Omega brand sparked a global buying frenzy. Despite not being a limited edition, the watch is now being resold at up to thirty times its original price on platforms like eBay.
