Lando Norris, the prominent Formula 1 driver, recently drew attention at the Dutch Grand Prix by sporting a rare and illustrious Rolex watch. Although not the priciest timepiece globally, this particular Rolex is one of the most exclusive ever produced. Originally created for the Sultan of Oman, it has become a coveted collector’s item.
Norris was seen wearing the Rolex Day-Date 18038, which was highlighted in an Instagram post. This exceptional watch features a striking red lacquered ‘Stella’ dial adorned with the Khanjar emblem, representing the national symbol of Oman. At a recent Christie’s Important Watches auction, this model commanded a remarkable $131,000.
The Rolex Day-Date 18038 boasts a distinctive design, characterized by its 18k yellow gold case and matching gold Rolex President bracelet. The dial’s deep red lacquer, known as the ‘Stella’ dial, is its most notable feature. Measuring 36mm, this timepiece adheres to the classic size of the Day-Date line and is powered by an automatic movement, blending functionality with opulence.
Introduced in 1956, the Rolex Day-Date was the first wristwatch to display both the date and the day of the week in full. Since its inception, the Day-Date has evolved through various design iterations, while maintaining its core design. The watch has been crafted from various materials, including platinum, white gold, and rose gold, with an array of dial colors and bezel designs.
Special editions, such as the one worn by Norris, have been exclusively made for royalty and heads of state, cementing the Day-Date’s status as a symbol of luxury and distinction.
