In the midst of the Paris Olympics, Omega’s role in timekeeping is as crucial as ever. While observing one of the events, I noticed an Omega employee casually wearing the newly launched Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M Ultra Light, one of two prototypes stealthily introduced yesterday. Curious, I inquired about any other upcoming products, only to be met with a laugh – perhaps a subtle hint at another surprise.
Thanks to the keen eyes at Gear Patrol, it appears that Omega ambassador Daniel Craig has once again been spotted with an unreleased watch – this time, potentially a black, no-date Seamaster 300M.
Craig’s Secret Watch
Initially, I missed the significance of the photos Omega shared of Craig at the Olympic “Omega House” in Paris. Celebrities in press releases often get a cursory glance. However, this oversight was akin to underestimating Bond in a high-stakes poker game. Here are the details that stood out.
Upon closer inspection, the watch on Craig’s wrist has a mesh bracelet reminiscent of the 60th Anniversary Seamaster 300M. Instead of the “60” on the bezel, there’s a dive-appropriate pip. The hands and indices are white, with the seconds hand resembling the traditional style of the Seamaster 300M, rather than the lollipop design. Notably, the watch appears distinctly black. Adding to the intrigue, Craig’s badge features a headshot straight out of a James Bond film.
Enhanced Observations
Gear Patrol noted several other features, including a potentially different crystal and a possible ceramic bezel, which I agree with. They also highlighted the trend of “unit watches” – specialized timepieces made for organizations like the United States Secret Service and Denmark’s Frømandskorpset (naval special forces), the latter worn by King Frederik X of Denmark on his coronation day.
A particularly notable unit watch tracked by our friend at Watches of Espionage was made for special police units in France tasked with Olympic security in Paris. Although it’s unlikely, this watch could be one of those unit watches. These typically feature creamy lume, fully matte dials, and matte ceramic bezels.
The Awaited No-Date Seamaster
The possibility remains that this watch is Omega’s interpretation of Rolex’s no-date Submariner – a highly anticipated release that many have long awaited. If true, it would undoubtedly add another layer of excitement to Omega’s Olympic involvement and Craig’s ever-enigmatic allure as both an actor and an ambassador.
Only time will tell if this mysterious Seamaster makes its official debut, but for now, it remains an enticing secret even Bond can’t fully conceal.
