Apple Watch Embraces Rest Days with New watchOS 11 Update

Jay Blahnik, Vice President of Fitness Technologies at Apple, acknowledged the significance of this change: “We really contemplated the pause feature for quite a while. For many, breaking a streak can be a motivational reset. It’s a way to manage expectations and set new goals.”

The update also introduces the Vitals app, which consolidates key health metrics and provides actionable insights. This app is designed to offer users a comprehensive view of their health, potentially alerting them to issues before they become significant. Sumbul Desai, Vice President of Health at Apple, emphasized the app’s role in enhancing user awareness: “These notifications are not meant to nag. They provide a clear view of your health, helping you understand when you might need to adjust your activity.”

Complementing the Vitals app is the new Training Load feature, which assesses your recent workout performance against a 28-day average. This tool is intended to help users gauge the effectiveness of their workouts and make informed decisions about their training intensity. Blahnik explained: “Elite athletes often push their limits to improve performance, and we want to support that decision-making process based on what they aim to achieve.”
