Former San Antonio Spurs player and current lead television analyst Sean Elliott is expressing profound relief after his Apple Watch detected an irregular heartbeat, as revealed by his wife’s Instagram update.
Claudia Zapata-Elliott shared that Sean was asymptomatic when his smartwatch flagged a potential case of Atrial Fibrillation (AFib). This condition, characterized by an irregular, rapid, or slow heartbeat, can significantly increase the risk of stroke, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Upon receiving the alert, Elliott sought medical attention from cardiologists at Methodist Healthcare San Antonio. Following a series of diagnostic tests, the team performed a procedure called “cardioversion” to restore his heart to a normal rhythm.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Zapata-Elliott expressed gratitude for both the timely intervention and the advanced technology that played a crucial role in his recovery. She praised the healthcare system and the Apple Watch for its role in detecting the anomaly.
