Paris, France — OMEGA’s Countdown Clock in Paris has reached zero, signaling the commencement of the Olympic Games Paris 2024. Following a vibrant Opening Ceremony in the heart of the host city, the renowned Swiss watchmaker now undertakes its role as Official Timekeeper for all 329 events. Over the next several weeks, the world’s elite athletes will compete across 32 sports, striving for gold, silver, and bronze medals.
OMEGA has arrived in Paris equipped with 350 tonnes of timekeeping apparatus and a team of 550 timekeepers ready to measure every fraction of a second and ensure the accuracy of the official results.
“There’s always an incredible energy at the start of the Olympic Games, with so much anticipation for the weeks ahead,” says Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of OMEGA. “OMEGA knows how hard these athletes have trained and the many hours they have dedicated to their careers. It’s our honour to support them in Paris and be part of their history-making moments.”
This marks the 31st occasion since 1932 that OMEGA has served as the Official Timekeeper at the Olympic Games. Selected initially for its precision, OMEGA has maintained a commitment to excellence, innovation, and reliability over the past 92 years, developing many critical technologies relied upon by athletes, judges, and spectators.
As the sporting events unfold, the OMEGA Countdown Clock will remain at Port de la Bourdonnais near the Eiffel Tower, continuing its countdown to the Paralympic Games, which begin on August 28th. OMEGA has been the official timekeeper of the Paralympic Games since 1992 and will continue its duties this summer, marking another chapter in its storied legacy of timekeeping at the world’s foremost sporting events.
