In a tragic development, Spanish authorities have confirmed that the body discovered in a ravine near Masca village belongs to Jay Slater, a 19-year-old apprentice bricklayer who went missing last month. However, officials have not yet disclosed whether they have recovered the Rolex watch he was allegedly involved in stealing.
On July 15, the Civil Guard confirmed the identification of the body through fingerprint analysis, revealing that Slater had suffered fatal injuries consistent with a fall. Despite this confirmation, there has been no word on the status of the £12,000 Rolex watch that Slater was reported to have stolen.
The Civil Guard has stated that they are not releasing additional details beyond what has already been made public. A spokesperson for the force mentioned, “All the information we’re prepared to release at this stage has been made available. Any further updates will be provided through the usual channels.”
The circumstances surrounding Slater’s disappearance and death have been the subject of intense media scrutiny. Reports indicate that he had bragged about stealing a Rolex on social media shortly before his disappearance on June 17. He was last seen heading to his Airbnb in Masca with two acquaintances, one of whom is reportedly a known drug dealer.
The preliminary autopsy results suggest that Slater’s death was caused by injuries consistent with a fall. Authorities also found his identification documents on the body, reinforcing the conclusion that his death was accidental. The search, which lasted 29 days, concluded with the recovery of his remains using a helicopter.
As the investigation continues, the question of whether the stolen Rolex was recovered remains unanswered. The authorities have yet to confirm if they are pursuing the matter of the missing watch, leaving the public and media waiting for further details.
