In a spectacular auction event at Christie’s in Hong Kong, an exceptionally rare Patek Philippe watch, one of only three ever produced, commanded an impressive $8.42 million.
This 18K yellow gold, dual-crown Patek Philippe World Time, reference 2523J, far surpassed its low estimate of $5 million, though it fell just shy of the anticipated $10 million high estimate.
The timepiece was the star attraction of the Important Watches Featuring The Generations & Timeless Opulence Collections auction. Among the exclusive group of 12 reference 2523J watches adorned with enamel maps, this piece featured an exquisite depiction of Eurasia. The series includes six watches with maps of North America, three depicting South America, and three of Eurasia.
Of the two other known Eurasia enamel map watches, one resides in Patek Philippe’s private collection in Geneva. The other was previously auctioned by Phillips Geneva in 2021, fetching $7.7 million.
This sale underscores the enduring allure and significant value of Patek Philippe’s meticulously crafted and historically significant timepieces.
