Timex Teams Up with Seconde/Seconde/ for Playful and Affordable Watch Collection

by Barbara Wilson

French artist Romaric André, renowned for his witty take on the world of horology, has launched a lighthearted collaboration with Timex, bringing a playful twist to the latest watch collection. The Timex x Seconde/Seconde/ project, a four-part series, showcases André’s unique knack for infusing humor into the realm of timepieces, offering enthusiasts a delightful and affordable addition to their wristwear collection.

The first two episodes of the Timex x Seconde/Seconde/ collection, paying homage to the Q Timex and Timex M79 Automatic, quickly garnered attention and sold out in record time. The Q Timex, affectionately nicknamed “Pepsi” for its vibrant blue and red bezel, was given an amusing touch with a red bendy straw replacing the traditional seconds hand, a humorous nod to the watch’s iconic nickname. Similarly, the M79 Automatic, fondly referred to as “Batman” due to its resemblance to the legendary superhero’s uniform, was playfully adorned with a SLAP seconds hand, reminiscent of the comical fight scenes from the Adam West-era Batman series.

Building on the success of the initial releases, the latest episodes, #3 and #4, continue the trend of blending playful elements with classic watch designs. Episode #3 features a Q Timex with a striking green dial and matching bezel, aptly dubbed “Hulk” by collectors, now enhanced with a large green fist in place of the traditional seconds hand, paying homage to the Marvel character’s fiery persona. Episode #4 pairs the iconic red and black “Coke” bezel of the M79 Automatic with a whimsical cheeseburger seconds hand, adding a delectable touch to the timepiece’s aesthetic appeal.

Priced at $199 and $299 respectively, and limited to just 500 pieces each, these watches are expected to sell out swiftly, given the growing demand for André’s creatively reimagined timepieces. With André’s artistic ingenuity showing no signs of slowing down, fans of his distinctive watch-based humor can eagerly anticipate more whimsical additions to the Timex x Seconde/Seconde/ collection in the future.
