In 2024, the news that the Aquanaut series was rumored to discontinue the dual-time model 5164A before the Geneva Watch and Wonders Fair was quite a pity. But after all, the old must make way for the new. The Aquanaut series continued to have new additions this year, and the most notable one was undoubtedly the 5164G made of white gold. Patek Philippe changed both the dial and the strap of the watch to blue-gray, creating a clear distinction from the previous black dial of the stainless steel model. According to the data from the advanced watch market research institution WatchCharts, the secondary market prices of the popular models of the Aquanaut series around May 2024 were as follows: 5167A: US$ 49,792 (approximately NT$ 1.62 million), 5167R: US$ 71,140 (approximately NT$ 2.315 million), 5168G-001: US$ 73,162 (approximately NT$ 2.38 million), 5968A: US$ 115,788 (approximately NT$ 3.768 million), and 5968G-010: US$ 116,375 (approximately NT$ 3.787 million). Each model is significantly higher than the official pricing, indicating how astonishing the peak state of the watch market was at the end of the first quarter of 2022. Even after more than two years of price decline, the overpricing situation is still obvious.

Half a year has passed since then. From the data released by WatchCharts, we found that the market trends of these popular models of the Aquanaut series continue to decline. Although the market prices of watches always fluctuate during the half-year period, in terms of the latest market quotations, compared to the market prices half a year ago, most of these six models show a shrinking state.
Looking at them in sequence, such as 5167A: US$ 50,811 (approximately NT$ 1.653 million), 5167R: US$ 68,246 (approximately NT$ 2.22 million), 5168G-001: US$ 73,352 (approximately NT$ 2.387 million), 5968A: US$ 115,363 (approximately NT$ 3.754 million), and 5968G-010: US$ 115,796 (approximately NT$ 3.768 million). Just looking at these numbers is still considerable, but more than half of them have dropped from the level half a year ago. However, recently, the secondary market price performances of these five Aquanaut series models have been quite polarized. For example, the increase of 5167A is more obvious, while 5167R and 5968G belong to the declining group. The remaining 5968A and 5168G perform relatively stably. 5167A has been on the rise since entering October. Although it started to decline a little in the middle and late November, the current secondary market price still reaches a new high this year.

The secondary market prices of these popular models of the Aquanaut series still show a downward trend, but they are still a long way from the official pricing baseline. And similar to the Nautilus series, the overpricing degree of the Aquanaut series is also quite significant, with all five models having a premium rate of over 40%. The top two with excessive premiums are 5968A-001 with 106% and 5167A with 105.2%. The other three are 5968G-010 with 48%, 5167R with 44.8%, and 5168G-001 with 44% in sequence. Even though the watch market has been in a decline for more than two years, the high premium rate still makes people feel inaccessible. The charm of the popular models of the “King of Watches” is truly extraordinary.
