Big news emerged from the recently concluded Children Action charity gala. It turns out that the one-of-a-kind Nautilus 5711/1500A created by Patek Philippe to raise funds for this Geneva-based charity has been successfully sold. The transaction amount was even higher than the PPxTIFFANY Nautilus 5711/1A-018 sold at the Phillips The 2021 New York Watch Auction (which fetched $6,503,500 at the time), rewriting the record for the most expensive Nautilus series watch in history.
We previously introduced this Nautilus 5711/1500A (for details, see “Patek Philippe Creates a Unique ‘Steel-case Nautilus 5711′ for Charitable Purposes with Hand-engraved Case Cover, a First for the Series”). Patek Philippe has been creating special watches for auction for Children Action every two years (similar to their enthusiasm for participating in the Only Watch auction, contributing to social welfare). In 2024, their decision to bring back the Nautilus 5711 was somewhat surprising because this model was supposed to disappear from Patek Philippe’s history after its discontinuation in 2021. However, for charitable purposes, they chose a work that holds a fatal attraction for collectors and added special changes with great sincerity, obviously aiming to fetch a high price and provide a significant financial boost for Children Action.
The unique Nautilus 5711/1500A created by Patek Philippe for the Children Action charity gala features Maori-style hand engravings all over the case and bracelet, the rarity of which is self-evident.
What makes Children Action so special? Founded in 1994, the organization’s mission is to improve the lives of disadvantaged children worldwide, especially in developing countries. Their measures focus on medical care (including critical surgeries), mental health support, educational programs, and emergency humanitarian support. It is conceivable that Children Action needs sufficient funds to carry out these activities and serve a wider population. After learning about the organization’s purpose, Patek Philippe has been very supportive, regularly creating a special model that is not available on the market to raise large sums of money for them.
The transparent case back is specially engraved with the words “Children Action 2024”, demonstrating its global uniqueness and collector’s value.
The reason why the Nautilus 5711/1500A could surpass the previous price record of the PPxTIFFANY Nautilus 5711/1A-018 is not only because it returned after discontinuation but also because the design of the watch is truly unprecedented. It is the first (and likely the last) Nautilus series watch with hand engravings on both the case and bracelet. Of course, in the past, some modified watch brands have made similar modifications, but this time, it was done by Patek Philippe itself, which is of completely different significance and extremely rare.
The Nautilus 5711/1500A comes with a pair of cufflinks with a similar design as the watch, adding to the collector’s pleasure.
If the limited edition of 170 pieces of the PPxTIFFANY Nautilus 5711/1A-018 could fetch a sky-high price of over $6.5 million, then the rarer and more dreamy Nautilus 5711/1500A could be expected to break the previous record without a doubt. In the end, the winning bid for this watch was… 6.7 million Swiss francs (approximately $7.55 million, NT$245.07 million). Undoubtedly, it topped the price record of the Nautilus series watches. Moreover, Patek Philippe also included a pair of hand-engraved cufflinks with the watch. The material of the cufflinks, the engravings on the surface, and the horizontal stripes all correspond to the watch. The design derived from the same source makes it another unique peripheral product of Patek Philippe besides the watch, and it is another accessory that the collector who paid a high price will be very happy to receive.
After intense bidding competition, the Nautilus 5711/1500A was finally sold for a sky-high price of 6.7 million Swiss francs (approximately NT$245.07 million), rewriting the series’ price record.
