Hotels often deal with a range of forgotten items, from everyday necessities to surprising and peculiar objects. A recent report by Hotels.com sheds light on some of the most unusual items guests have left behind during their stays.
According to Melanie Fish, Vice President of Global Public Relations at Hotels.com, the report reveals a broad spectrum of forgotten items. While mobile chargers, adapters, and dirty laundry are common oversights, the list also includes high-end luxury goods like Rolex watches and Hermes Birkin bags, as well as more unconventional items such as construction pipes, a car tire, a human tooth, two full-leg casts, stacks of cash, and even a pet lizard and a chick.
The study, which surveyed over 400 hotels globally, uncovers not just the bizarre items left behind, but also quirky room service requests. Among these were four pounds of bananas, a bathtub filled with Evian water, burnt toast, a caviar-topped hot dog, customized allergen menus for pets, fresh goat milk, and even a request for a high five from a team member.
Hotel staff often go to great lengths to return these lost items to their rightful owners. Examples include a staff member driving 100 miles to return a forgotten passport and another going several hundred meters to deliver items before a cruise ship’s departure.
Melanie Fish noted, “By asking hotels to reveal the secrets behind their most memorable stays, we discovered that these ‘insights’ have actually inspired services available to guests today. Hotels are increasingly catering to travelers’ unique demands, which may become the norm.”
